The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi or HSK is the standardized test for Mandarin Chinese Proficiency for non-native speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives.
The HSK follows the principle of “test-teaching correlation”, bases the design of the test on the current trends in international Chinese language training, and is closely related to textbooks. The purpose of the test is to “promote training through testing” and “promote learning through testing”.
The HSK emphasizes the objectivity and accuracy of the evaluation and stresses the learners’ actual Chinese language abilities.
The HSK sets clear test objectives to allow the test takers to be able to improve their Chinese language abilities in a systematic and efficient way.
HSK test is accepted anywhere within Mainland China. In year 2017, HSK is one of the requirements for visa application for long term job purpose in China. All of the best career prospects in China are enhanced if you have Chinese skills, and language ability is also an essential component of understanding the work culture.
The HSK Test is divided into 6 grades, from HSK1 to HSK6. In general, HSK1 and HSK2 are considered beginner’s level; HSK 3 to 4 are categorized under intermediate level; and HSK5 and HSK6 are regarded as advanced level. Everyone who takes the HSK exam in China will have their test checked and scored by Hanban, the headquarter of the Confucius Institute.
